Web browser rendering: iPad vs. Playbook
An interesting look at the speed of the Playbooks browser. Obviously RIM had some time to gather feedback and intel from Apples first leap into the tablet arena, but kudos to them for the result. There is a marked difference.
Take into account the Playbook has dual core functionality in the CPU chipset over single core in the iPad, the iPad does a decent job in keeping up.
When the iPad version 2 makes an appearance I believe this is where some improvements will be felt (browsing experience… yet I don’t think Flash support will be thrown in).

WhatsApp: Goodbye SMS
The best things since sliced bread 
. Cut down on SMS and MMS costs by using WhatsApp. The one very cool thing about it is it integrates into the phones OS (saving and using items from camera roll and of course accessing the address book to see who else uses WhatsApp) but the real wow factor is its seamless integration into all 3 of the major mobile OS’ plus the aging Nokia platform on top of it. I guess we will see a version for the new player (WinPho) soon even tho WinPhos fancrowd is not too large at the moment.

For anyone running into errors “Can’t open database” when syncing with address book on a Mac, follow these steps:
- Do a complete backup using the backup/restore utility (Blackberry Desktop Manager)

Blackberry desktop: Lame on Mac
Why is it software developers assume Mac users don’t want all the good features?
I helped a friend upgrade his Blackberry to a newer model and headed over to the download page from BB website for the software. I downloaded the Mac version and made the transition. It was basic and clumsy with not everything being kicked over (mail archives and BBM contacts).
After kicking around the forums I found some posts about the differences between the Windows and Mac versions. Firing up Windows in VMware Fusion I find a whole slew of cool and helpful features not available in the Mac version. After using the Windows version everything happened as it should.
What gives here? Why can’t we have the same experience regardless of OS? Is RIM specifically retaliating against the iPhone people?

Featuring a slew of awesome options and available in a variety of plans and prices, Basecamp makes planning and project management a snap. With the public premise lurking that everything worth doing has been done on the App store, I have been disappointed in the iPhone and Android offerings for mobile access to Basecamp.
Enter Kompass: the Ajax solution that spans all mobile devices and works elegantly. User avatars, functioning todo lists and overviews work nicely and efficiently. Since its built in Ajax it scales nicely on the iPad with no problems. The only thing missing is file access (even just for viewing).
