Facebook will offer free email accounts now. With 500 million users they stand poised to overtake the leaders in email: Gmail, Y! mail and Hotmail. The question is if people want that kind of integration with their very personal email lives. Imagine being able to search an email address with results being everyone you know on Facebook. A hospital employee posted critical comments of her superiors on her Facebook wall to other fellow employees and got sacked. Now the government is saying she was wrongfully fired and is bringing her employers to court. Their line is her personal Facebook account is protected speech and should be treated the same as “water cooler” chit chat. Now imagine what kind of damage employees could do with well crafted “private” campaigns protected federally on lets say something like position votes, budget decisions, personnel shuffles, or even executive reviews. Reuters reports any trades that happened in this interim will be repealed, but maybe authorities should have a look at those traders who placed the trades at those opportune times.

Lets say the trades were innocent and after the price adjustment, those traders would be some very happy campers. I would be very upset if my golden opportunity trades were canceled due to “glitches”.
