The cost of litigation in 2007 was $24.5m (£16m), and the RIAA recovered just over $500,000 (£326,000). In 2006 a $22.6m (£14.7m) outlay netted a return of $445,000 (£290,000).
So what does this tell us? If someone offered me they would go after bad people who stole from me if I paid them, and yet when they came back with 20 bucks they charged me a thousand, I think I would call foul. This tells us that there is some strange racket going on. Are the companies involved just trying to cut out a new market of profitable business? It sounds suspect.
