Rowmote (Pro) vs. TouchPad: Remote control your Desktop
vs.
While I hate to take sides on software choices when both sides have created great products, it really comes down to the user (being me in this case) and how the respective Apps handle. Being a programmer I know how much work goes into writing an app and many times what we (the software developers) think are great features don’t get the same response from the end users.
These 2 apps both work well and are worth the dough they ask. In my humble opinion Rowmote Pro is the better choice at the current state of both Apps.
First of all, Touchpad took some finagling to get working and paired (firewall tinkering etc..) while Rowmote dealt with pairing by a helper installation on the desktop (a MacBook Pro in my case) that worked seamlessly on the first round.
Secondly, the media application support did not work for me on Touchpad. Regardless if I selected VLC for instance, the remote media buttons still only controlled Front Row. Rowmote works as advertised and you are able to control a wide selection of media players with standard buttons.
Thirdly, the tracking on the touchpad area seams snappier on Rowmote while Touchpad has lag and jumps.
In Touchpads favor, the touchpad area is larger than Rowmotes.
Unfortunately for Touchpad, Rowmote wins out at the current versions.

Other than ABC, Casio PAW-2000 is a Great Watch for Gadget Fans Last year, I posted an unboxing video for my watch and have gotten lots of questions about it since then. LiveCams: Best camera monitoring app for iPhone/iPad

I have tried (and paid for) over 5 separate camera monitoring apps for my IP cameras and have come to a conclusion: LiveCams by Barry Egerter RULES!! I don’t want to make this an app bashing post, so instead of calling fault to the other offerings, Ill list the awesome features of Livecams.
While it has a free/open/public camera viewing function that reads from a fairly well maintained list, this is not the true strength of LiveCams since there a couple other Apps that handle this as well (if not better). LiveCams strength is in its role as a surveillance tool to monitor IP cameras. There is a feature to turn off this voyeuristic public camera tool if you are not inclined to perv out looking for topless women on bikini marked beach cameras.
LiveCams is the first App to have native support for most cameras every made, even the obscure ones. I have not come across a camera it doesn’t support yet.
There is an awesome function to export/import settings I have not seen anywhere else. This is especially helpful if you have both an iPad and an iPhone. Perform the tedious task of setting up ur cameras on one device and export to the other one. Very handy!
The PTZ controls are smoother and laid out better, there are camera position presets that work nicely, and best of all….. its one of the cheapest Apps available. 0.99 for iPhone and 2.99 for iPad. It doesn’t get better than that.

BeeJive still holds a higher set of cards in the iPad round:
- the interface is smoother and more polished
- the layout makes more sense for multiple accounts
- setting account public names is easier
- setting status across multiple accounts is streamlined and 1-tap yet can be done independantly
- integrated voice messaging supporting longer clips (not voice chat) (security note)
- push works great
- switching between accounts/chats is easy
- Skype support
- voice dictation (additional purchase) (security note)
- built-in browser (will be useless when OS 4.0 introduces multi-tasking)

Toy Story 3 site: Made by Apple but not for fruit disciples
iPad users get shunted by being served a dumb version of the Toy Story 3 site compared to the PC/Mac version (that uses Flash)
CNN reported a funny story how iPad users were unable to view the Disney produced Toy Story 3 website for a spell until the error was fixed (something in browser detection).
Quote:
That Disney website is built in Flash format, which, as screen grabs show, means it didn’t work at one point on Apple’s iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.
Big deal, right? Lots of websites are built in Flash, and many of them don’t work on Apple gadgets (there’s a workaround for some Flash video). But it’s kind of amusing when you consider the fact that Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who has been posting lately about how much of a problem Flash is, was a Pixar co-founder and now serves on Disney’s board of directors.
So out of curiosity I went to the Toy Story site and checked out the differences on both platforms. The result? iPad users are getting b#%%f#35d. The iPad serves a real lame version in comparison. TS3 on Firefox for Mac OSX

What does this tell us? Flash still holds the highest honors in web interactivity? Or Flash developers kick butt over the competition? What is the real competition? If Mr. Jobs continues to preach the evilness and pure mediocrity of Adobe Flash, what is he doing to shine light on an alternative?

iPad Joins the Cloud: Dropbox
Dropbox adds some awesome cloud computing integration with its latest iPad app
(image from wired.com)
Being able to access files across multiple platforms and networks is where functionality should strive to be. A heads up from Wired drew my attention to Dropboxes new feature of allowing a user to access files accross the cloud but now being able to choose which application to locally open remote files with. Couple that with iPhones forthcoming multitasking support and the iPad starts to look more and more like a viable mobile tool for serious work.
A quick look on their website shows they already have Android support and are working on bringing a BB version as well to the market. That brings corporate support to share business files (over SSL) remotely regardless of mobile device. All they need now is a WinPho client and get ready to rock your socks.
