Adium – Push to iPhone with Remodium
Posted by Erixun in Communications on September 1, 2010
I finally found what I have been looking for…. a mobile solution for chatting. I have BeeJive and IM+ but this requires I log off my desktop sessions and re-login to my portable. If I forget to do this, sometimes Adium tries to renew lost sessions when I force interrupt by logging on my portable while logged in to my Desktop. I have mulled getting 2 separate accounts, one for desktop and 1 for portable, but thats insanity to match chats and who knows where I get my messages. Another time is when Im in bed away from my desktop, it would be pointless to have a separate account just for bed.
Enter Remodium: An awesome and soon to be elegant solution to my problems. It acts as a remote control to my current Adium session and after pairing on Wifi it works over 3G as well. It requires a plugin on Adium to work.
I say soon to be elegant as its missing a few features to really make it the shiznikle:
- No iPad version
- No unread message counter on iPhone homescreen icon
- Push sequence is highly latent (can be 20 minutes…)
- No buddy icon support
- No status switching utility
But for a work in progress it rocks hard.

KisMAC: Kiss the Germans
I just noticed KisMAC moved from http://kismac.de/ to http://kismac-ng.org/. Now there is some message about it being banned in Germany.
A quick trip to WIKI turns up: (quote from Wiki)
The project was created and led by Michael Rossberg until July 27, 2007, when he removed himself from the project due to changes in German law (specifically, StGB Section 202c) that “prohibits the production and distribution of security software”.[3] On this date, project lead was passed on to Geoffrey Kruse, maintainer of KisMAC since 2003, and active developer since 2001. KisMAC is actively being developed. Primary development, and the relocated KisMAC web site are now based in the United States. The KisMAC project can be found at http://kismac-ng.org/ .
As of August 6, 2007, the former homepage now denounces the new German law.
WARNING: IF YOU LIVE IN GERMANY BE CAREFUL ABOUT VISITING THIS SITE. There is some text in German with the icon of a surveillance camera that says:
Der Zugriff auf diese Seite wurde von der Aktion “ÜBERWACH!” nicht protokolliert. Über die Aktion “ÜBERWACH!”
That access to this side was ” by the action; SUPERVISE! ” does not log. Over the action ” SUPERVISE! “
So whatever that means. I have always condoned obeying the laws of the land you live in.
