Backbeat 906 BT headphones. As advertised
Posted by Erixun in Bluetooth, Hardware, Technology on December 8, 2009
This pair of headphones is an essential to any gym rat. Great performance, sound quality and overall usage handling. I sometimes use them purely as a handsfree kit as they are lite enough and do not block ambient audio (if you don’t push the inserts down to deep in your earholes) and best of all I don’t look like one of the alien people (again, alien people are folks that wear one-eared Bluetooth headsets constantly and specifically when there are no calls coming in).
A few buddies bought some and complained about poor quality and general failure. After some research I found many folks complaining of this from headsets purchased in the US. Possibly a bad batch over there. One friend had to trade his in for a new one 3 times before giving up. The pair I got work like a charm and I have taken them on long travels (airports etc..) and use them in the gym daily. Sold as Altec Lansing or Plantronics (Plantronics acquired Altec Lansing in 2005) make sure you keep your receipt and warranty should you experience a lemon.
I use mine with the iphone 3GS. One gripe: The iphone does not support remote track selecting (only BT streaming, play and pause). So to forward or rewind, you must use the phones’ controls (although the headset has support for forward/review that work on other devices).

Bluetrek Metal: Yes its that thin! Unfortunately thin enough for the graveyard.

This truly is a small BT headset and feels like nothing you have ever tried. Battery life is good and the combined belt clip is a great addition for us non alien people (the folks who wear BT headsets 24/7 while walking, talking, eating, shitting, fucking, showering and sleeping).
There are some drawbacks that just deny this great headset as being a Jabra killer:
- Clarity: Just not clear enough sound. I tried on a few different phones and it is the headset that delivers mumbled output.
- Design: the in ear portion is at a perfect 90 degree angle which makes device hang slightly askew and not flush against the upper cheek.
- Accessibility: the call/end button is on the end of the device where u would usually place your thumb. I found myself pulling up the voice commander when I either mounted the device in my ear or pushed it back into its belt clip.
Its quite sad really as it comes sooo close to being functional in a business environment. But alas it sits in my graveyard of unused tech.

Samsung WEP500 – Shoot the designer

I have used many headsets that I can say where not all that great, but at least they functioned. This hunk of junk is just downright useless.the answer/hangup button is placed strategically where you place your thumb to insert the unit into your ear. I am not one to walk around with headsets in my ear 24/7, I rather keep it im my pocket and insert when the phone rings. This means that when the phone rings you answer first by picking up the unit and then when you shove it in the earhole you terminate the call. Even for the alien guys (folks who walk around 24/7 with a bluetooth device in their ear) when you insert the device in the morning you usually end up hitting that button and it starts dialing the last number.
Very frustrating!!!
Don’t waste your money on a device where you have to gingerly handle it from the sides (it pops out like a bar of soap). The habit creating process to insert it into your ear without starting a dial to your ex-girlfriend while your standing next to your wife is LONG and PAINFUL if you can keep your cool and not smash it onto the floor.
